The Addition
The Addition is a private residential flat in Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon. The open kitchen has light timber-grain cabinetry under a white worktop, with every appliance built in; nothing divides the dining area from the kitchen, the two being marked out by the floor and the ceiling instead.
The kitchen keeps the appliances behind dark cabinetry and leaves enough worktop for preparation; the dining table sits right beside it, so dishes travel only a step.
A shallow shelf is left on the wall for an embroidery and a small plant; in a small flat, a sense of occasion often starts with one corner.
Timber-grain panelling runs from the headboard onto the side wall, concealing the air conditioning and the cable runs; draw the full-height curtains and the sleeping area becomes a room of its own.
Full-height white units stand along the corridor, the doors flush and without handles; a timber-toned section on one side works as a transition, so the white never reads as flat.
Grey stone-effect tiles cover the bathroom walls and floor, with a glass shower enclosure dividing wet from dry; the mirror cabinet is recessed into the wall and takes the bottles with it.
