When I first came into the renovation trade more than ten years ago, I found that plenty of companies understood design but not the engineering behind it —— I wanted us to be equally professional at both."
At Galaxy, every stage from design and material selection through to site works is supervised by a Registered Professional Engineer, bringing the discipline of engineering into every home. Founder Andrew Lai is a Registered Professional Engineer with a deep grounding in building structures and construction processes, and has worked on major infrastructure projects including Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme in Hong Kong.

A few things to settle before your renovation
Removing walls, submitting plans, open kitchens — get these wrong and you carry legal liability. Every answer below comes from the Buildings Department or another official source.
Can this wall in my home be removed? How do you tell a load-bearing wall from a partition wall?
You cannot tell by eye. The nature of a wall must be verified by an Authorized Person against the drawings approved by the Buildings Department; any alteration involving a structural wall must be submitted for approval first, and site works may only begin once the Buildings Department has given its approval and consent.

There are three categories: exempted works need no prior approval; minor works may be submitted under the simplified procedure; all other alterations and additions must be submitted by an Authorized Person, and work may only start once the Buildings Department has given its approval and consent.

An RPE is an engineer registered under the Engineers Registration Ordinance (Cap. 409). The difference lies in the training and accountability behind structural judgement; submitting plans still requires an Authorized Person and a Registered Structural Engineer.
